History of New Hope Tokyo

New Hope Tokyo started with a vision to be a church where Christians and non-Christians can come, is vibrant and fun, a place that is easy to invite friends and family and the magnificence of God is always celebrated together.

2000-1

The Sunday service at New Hope Tokyo is done bilingually in English and Japanese.  The service has contemporary gospel music, drama and hula, and the message speaks to us from the Bible about topics in our daily lives.

We started through worship and fellowship at a small rental meeting room in Yotsuya-sanchome.  In October 1999 Pastor Talo Sataraka and his family came to Japan with Pastor Toru Majima's family (he is the Senior Pastor at New Hope Yokohama).  A total of fifteen leaders gathered together on Sundays and weekdays to pray together for the salvation of their family and friends and to share their dreams and hopes for church.  The following year on March 19th 2000, they had their official opening ceremony for the church.

In the first six months the church had more than hundred pepole, and many were baptized.  In 2004 New Hope Yokohama was planted, and in 2005 New Hope Osaka was planted.  In 2006, International Preschool started in Narimasu, and New Hope Narimasu started as a local church where family can gather together easily.  There are church planting plans for Taiwan and Okinawa in 2010.

New Hope Tokyo is a Protestant Christian church, and its mother church is New Hope Christian Fellowship Oahu in Oahu Hawaii, where Pastor Wayne Cordeiro serves as the Senior Pastor.  New Hope Christian Fellowship Oahu is a church planted by Pastor Wayne Cordeiro, and on the island of Oahu alone, 20,000 people gather to fellowship.
